Common Lilac
Syringa vulgaris Katherine Havemeyer
Elegant florets of fabulously fragrant, fully double, lilac-blue flowers which are produced in dense clusters from late spring to early summer. This is a beautiful, deciduous variety with dark green, heart-shaped leaves and a spreading growth habit. It’s strong-growing and well-branched, making a perfect addition to the back of a sunny border in any garden. The following year’s flower buds are produced by mid-summer, so any unproductive or diseased wood should be removed before July.
