Cut Leaf Stags Horn Sumach
Rhus typhina Dissecta
This is a small, handsome, ornamental deciduous tree with a wide-spreading, tropical appearance and small, yellowish-green flowers from May to June. It is grown for its large, serrated, fern-like, light green leaves which take on spectacular, fiery shades of brilliant red, orange, golden-yellow, scarlet and purple in the autumn. Attractive, pyramidal crimson-red seed panicles are also produced in July, which have the appearance of dumpy, furry candles and often persist well into the winter. Combining well with Corylus Purpurea, it has an irregular, open appearance which looks great as a specimen tree in the centre of lawns or for growing in large containers. Its tolerant of strong winds and salt-laden air makes it suitable for growing near the coast
