Yakushimanum Rhododendron
Rhododendron Dopey
This is a small, evergreen hybrid with lance-shaped, mid-green leaves and a compact, upright growth habit. It bears enormous, showy, bright orange-red flowers above mid-green leaves between May and June. These are produced in dense trusses and have attractive, exotic-looking black splotches. It is a free-flowering variety which is attractive to butterflies and makes a lovely, small accent plant.

Garden Care:
Be careful not to plant too deep and incorporate lots of peat in the planting hole. Apply a generous woodchip mulch in summer to help the plant retain moisture and to protect the root from overheating. During the first growing season, water regularly in periods of dry weather to establish a deep, extensive root system and feed with an acid fertiliser after the plant has flowered. Routine pruning is not required.
