Japanese Flowering Cherry
Prunus Kanzan
This is a popular, deciduous, vase-shaped tree which has a vigorous, upright growth habit and bears beautiful, double flowers. It produces an abundance of large, profuse, purple-pink flowers which are borne in clusters in late April, shortly after the bronze foliage appears. The stiff, ascending branches are covered with young, coppery-red leaves in spring which become light green in the summer. In September, the foliage takes on shades of bronzy-orange before falling. It is a great tree for avenue planting or for growing as a specimen tree on the lawn.
