Variegated Bamboo
Pleioblastus viridistriatus(auricomus)
This is a beautiful, compact, semi-dwarf bamboo whose large, green-striped, bright golden-yellow leaves give it a tropical appearance. Perfect for the front of a sunny border and contrasting well with green-leaved grasses and bamboos, it has beautiful, purple-green canes that help to add architectural value to the garden. Its non-invasive habit means it’s also very effective when planted in groups or used as a specimen plant in a sunny spot of the garden. The superb, ribbon-like, variegated foliage is most intensely-coloured when it’s grown in full sun and it benefits from being cut back to ground level in winter to encourage a fresh production of foliage the following spring. It’s also suitable for growing in a container where it can be easily and reliably controlled.
