Aurea Oriental spruce
Picea Orientalis Aurea
This is a tall, symmetrical tree which forms a dense, narrow pyramid of glossy, mid-green foliage. It has slightly drooping branchlets with short, blunt-tipped needles which are closely-packed around the twigs. Stunning, golden-yellow new growth is produced in the spring, darkening to green with age, thus reducing the likelihood of sun-burn damage during the summer. The golden-yellow new growth contrasts well with the older green foliage, giving a powerful and formal shape and making it ideal for using as a lawn specimen in medium to large sized gardens. Many professional landscapers consider it superior to the more commonly cultivated Norway spruce.
