Mock Orange
Philadelphus cononarius aureus
An elegant, low maintenance, deciduous shrub which produces clusters of strongly scented, showy, single creamy-white flowers in abundance from April to July. It has an upright, fountain-like form with arching branches and beautiful, bright golden-yellow young leaves which gradually turn to yellow-green with age. Tolerant of urban pollution and salt-laden air, it’s great for using as an accent plant or for incorporating into a shrub border.
Position:
Prefers partial shade
Soil:
Prefers a moist, yet well-drained, fertile soil
Rate of Growth:
Fast
Flowering Period:
April to July

Other Features:
Drought tolerant once established and tolerant of very hard pruning. It’s best grown in a location that isn’t in direct sunlight all day long, to prevent the branch tips from scorching, which would deny the pleasure of spring flowers

Fully hardy: stands a temperature down to -15°C
Garden Care:
Cut back some of the older branches to the ground and the rest to a strong bud after flowering to rejuvenate the plant and encourage new growth to develop. Grow it in a partially shaded location or one which doesn’t receive full sunlight all day long so that the branch tips don’t burn
