Pear
Pear Beurré Hardy
Large, handsome russet pears with pale, brown-green skin and white flesh that’s smooth, juicy, sweet and aromatic. This is one of the best garden varieties producing white, ornamental flowers and bright red autumn foliage colour. The fruit should be picked while still hard in mid-September and left to ripen in store to give it its tender texture and distinctive flavour. A heavy-cropping dessert variety which requires a sheltered position.

Garden Care:
Some protection from late frosts is required and it needs a sheltered site to thrive. Some of the developing pears may drop in mid-summer, after which you should thin out the remaining fruit leaving one pear per cluster. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring to guarantee a good display of flowers, a plentiful crop and strong new growth.
