Chilean Oxalis
Oxalis adenophylla
This is a fantastic, non-invasive, perennial bulb with attractive, densely-arranged, pleated, grey-green leaves which have a stunning, folded heart-shaped appearance. The foliage provides a perfect backdrop to the massive, showy, open-faced, lilac-pink flowers which are darker at the edges, becoming paler towards the centre and attractively marked with purple veins. The flowers emerge from pretty, upright violet buds and have the unusual quality of closing themselves every evening. It’s excellent as groundcover, for sunny corners of the garden, in the rockery or even for using in decorative pots and troughs. The more light it receives, the more intense the flowering display will be.

Also known as Chilean Oxalis or the Silver Shamrock, it is extraordinarily cold-hardy because the bulbs are adapted for freezing during dormancy. It does not have any winter presence as it retreats underground during the winter, ready to burst into life again the following spring. Gorgeous both in and out of flower

Garden Care:
It is best planted from late autumn to early spring and should be lifted and divided every few years during the autumn to disperse and re-vive the bulbs. It’s not fussy about soil type providing it is free-draining.Please Note: Many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means that there is little or no top growth apparent between November and March. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in spring. In the dormant period, we may not have stocks of all varieties in all pot sizes and therefore reserve the right to supply 9cm pots instead of 1 or 2 litre plants and adjust the price down accordingly.
