Black Mulberry
Mulberry Morus Nigra
This is a small, rounded, majestic tree with bright green, heart-shaped leaves which are slightly serrated at the edges and have distinctive, white veining on the undersides. It produces inconspicuous, pale yellow-green flowers from May to June which are followed by divine, slightly acidic, tart-sweet, purple-black fruit in raspberry-like clusters. The fruit ripens in August and can be easily collected by placing a large sheet under the canopy of the tree and shaking the branches until the fruit has fallen. The gnarled branches make it a brilliant choice for growing as a specimen tree in a lawn
