Silver Grass
Miscanthus sinensis Kleine Fontane
This is a graceful, reliable grass with whispy, bright green leaves that have a fine, silvery-white stripe down the middle. It produces masses of small, feathery, bronze-purple flower plumes on erect stems between August and September. These are tinged with pink and gradually fade to silvery-white with age. Perfect for adding height and architectural flare to the garden, it looks particularly spectacular in an open, sunny perennial or mixed border. Cutting it back to the ground in late December will help to encourage a fresh production of foliage the following year.
