Early Dutch Honeysuckle
Lonicera periclymenum Belgica
Highly ornamental, large cartwheel-shaped flower heads which consist of wonderful, tubular individual flowers which emerge creamy-yellow before gradually darkening to apricot and then rose-pink. As all of the flowers open at different times, the plant appears to have blooms of all these colours open at once, each one exuding a wonderful, sweet fragrance. ‘Belgica’ is one of the delights of the summer garden, attracting bees, butterflies and ladybirds and making an excellent choice for scrambling over a trellis, archway, arbour or pergola. It has a cottage-garden feel and produces translucent, bright red berries between August and September.
