Red Hot Poker
Kniphofia uvaria
Towering spikes of large, torch-like, fiery orangey-red blooms which fade to yellow from the base as they mature, creating a spectacular bi-colour effect. These emerge from scarlet-red buds between August and September, forming bold, terminal spikes of tubular flowers that are attractive to bees and butterflies. It has strap-shaped, mid-green channelled foliage which surrounds the base of the flowering stems, providing a lovely backdrop to the blooms. Perfect for incorporating into ‘hot’ planting schemes in a fertile, sunny site; it should be grown in a reasonably sheltered position to prevent the foliage from being beaten about over the autumn.

If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in spring. In the dormant period, we may not have stocks of all varieties in all pot sizes and therefore reserve the right to supply 9cm pots instead of 1 or 2 litre plants and adjust the price down accordingly
