Common Jasmine
Jasminum officinale
This is a popular climber grown for the masses of highly scented white flowers that are borne in mid summer and continue right through to early autumn. It is a strong twiner, best grown over a shed, porch, arbour or other outbuilding, or a large old tree stump. Should be cut back gently in spring to keep it looking trim and tidy. Can also be grown on the wall of a house, where it associates nicely with climbing roses, honeysuckles or clematis, although it still looks beautiful when grown on its own. Should be grown in full sun where it may reach its potential height and spread of 11 metres by 2 metres. Can thrive in most fertile soils.
