Stinking Gladwyn
Iris foetidissima
Beautiful, small, deep purple blooms tinged with yellow at the base of each petal emerge on tall, arched flowering stems from May to July. This is a valuable, majestic, highly unusual iris forming a dense clump of long, strap-like, dark evergreen leaves which give off an unusual smell when crushed. It’s grown for its spectacular, cylindrical seed pods that appear after the flowers have faded, swelling throughout August before bursting open to reveal magnificent, bright orange-red berries in the autumn. These often stay hanging on the stems right through until the spring. Perfect for adding ornamental value to herbaceous borders, it’s great for a dry, shaded position and makes a great choice for combining with Echinops Ritro Veitch's Blue to provide year-round interest to the garden

If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in spring. In the dormant period, we may not have stocks of all varieties in all pot sizes and therefore reserve the right to supply 9cm pots instead of 1 or 2 litre plants and adjust the price down accordingly
