Blood Grass
Imperata cylindrica Red Baron
This is an excellent, upright, ornamental grass with rich red, sharply pointed blades fading to bright green at the base. The unique and breathtakingly beautiful leaves become more intensely-coloured as the season progresses, developing to a deep blood-red by the autumn and becoming translucent as they mature. Its exceptional colour makes it perfect for incorporating into borders, rock gardens or containers, particularly alongside golden, blue or black-foliaged grasses which it will contrast with beautifully. Producing clusters of fluffy, silvery-white flowers between June and August, its slow-spreading, clump forming growth habit makes it a great choice for using alongside ponds or in mass plantings.
