Gold Child English Ivy
Hedera helix Gold Child

A reliable, evergreen climber which boasts three-lobed, grey-green leaves with stunning, bright golden-yellow margins. This is a beautiful, sturdy ivy that’s perfect for adding a splash of colour to a shaded wall or fence. It’s also suitable for using as a groundcover plant and helps to attract garden birds such as wrens and robins to the garden. If it’s grown in shade the grey-green part of the leaves darken and the margins become more intense, making the variegation appear more pronounced. Mature plants produce small, yellowish-green flowers between October and November

Position: Full sun to dense shade

Soil: A humus-rich, neutral to alkaline soil

Rate of Growth: Average

Flowering Period: October to November

Flower Colour: Yellowish-green

Other Features: Insignificant flowers appear on mature plants in the autumn and the slower growth rate makes it easier to control that other Hedera cultivars

Hardiness: Fully hardy: stands a temperature down to -15°C

Garden Care: Fully hardy, but will need protecting from harsh wind conditions. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser each month during spring and summer to encourage new growth to develop. It should be kept moist during the winter months and specimens grown as house plants should be kept well-watered during the growing season. Pruning can be undertaken at any time of the year.
