Gooseberry Invicta
Gooseberry Invicta
A robust, heavy-cropping variety producing a reliable, abundant crop of large, yellow-green fruit that’s ready for harvesting in late May. It has a vigorous, spreading habit with very prickly growth that can be trained as a fan, espalier, cordon or standard. It has a permanent system of fruiting side-shoots with deeply-lobed, mid-green leaves that are resistant to mildew. An excellent, easy-to-grow, deciduous variety that’s tolerant of shade, resistant to mildew and not fussy about soil type.

Garden Care:
Incorporate lots of well-rotted organic matter into the planting hole. It’s also important to keep the base of the plant weed free, so we’d recommend taking the time to prepare the ground properly, removing all weeds before planting. Keep the plant well watered during periods of hot, dry weather and mulch with well-rotted manure each year in the spring. To guarantee a good display of fruit, feed with a potassium-based fertiliser in spring and protect the plant from birds using netting while the berries are developing. During the first year after planting, reduce the length of shoots by half, cutting them off at an outward-facing bud in the winter. Once the plant has become established, cut out dead, diseased and crossing branches only. Some shade is required in periods of very hot weather.
