Maidenhair Tree
Ginkgo biloba
Commonly known as Maidenhair tree, this is a very popular slow-growing conifer which is deciduous and long-lived. It has an upright growth habit when young and begins to spread more with age. It has fan-shaped, 12cm long bright green and leathery leaves making it a very eye-catching plant even when young. Bears fruits, with edible kernels, in late summer and autumn, if male and female plants are grown together. This is a fully frost hardy variety which grows best in full sun or partial shade. Ultimate height is 18 metres, however, this is only after many years growth (if left unpruned) and in desirable conditions. Height after 20 years is 5 metres.
