Checkerberry
Gaultheria Shallon
This is a low growing, evergreen shrub which is useful for ground cover in moist, peaty soils in a shaded area of the garden. It bears bell-shaped, pendent, pinkish-white flowers in May and June which are produced above leathery, dark green leaves. The foliage is rough, broadly-oval and sharply pointed with fine serrated edges.
