Forsythia
Forsythia Spectabilis Lollipop
This is a high ornamental, vigorous, showy shrub that becomes clothed in a spectacular, extravagant display of large, bright yellow blooms from March to April. These are evenly distributed along the attractive, arching stems and appear before the plant starts to come into leaf. It is long lived, rugged and easy-to-grow with a densely-branched, fountain-like form and toothed, ovate mid-green leaves. As a great addition to the spring garden, it makes a fantastic, dense-flowering hedge or screen and can be used as a stand-alone specimen at the back of a shrub or mixed border. Its tolerance of salt-laden air also makes it suitable for growing in coastal locations, and it is perfect for controlling erosion on steep slopes because it has an extensive root system and branch tips that root naturally.

It is tolerant of a wide range of soils conditions, including chalky soil, and stands up well to urban pollution. Garden Care:
Plant it in a position where it will have plenty of room and back-fill with some well-rotted garden compost. Cut back flowered branches to a strong bud once the blooms have finished, removing one or two of the old main stems back to the base if you wish to thin it out. It can be cut back hard after flowering if it gets too big, but avoid trimming it back in autumn or winter as this is when the buds for the following year’s flowers are developed
