Globe Thistle
Echinops ritro Veitch's Blue
Stunning, ornamental, vivid midnight-blue flower heads are produced on tall, upright, branched stems repeatedly from August to September. This is a handsome globe thistle with a clump-forming growth habit and deeply-lobed, thistle-like, glossy dark green leaves which are spine-tipped at the edges and have cobweb-like markings on top. The golf ball-sized flowers are excellent for cutting and it makes a great choice for growing in the middle of a sunny, well-drained border. If the flowering stems are cut back after the first lot of flowers fade, it will produce a second flush of blooms in early autumn

Incorporate lots of well-rotted organic matter into the backfill when planting. Apply generous well rotted organic mulch in early spring and keep well-watered during periods of dry weather. Please Note: Many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means that there is little or no top growth apparent between November and March. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in spring. In the dormant period, we may not have stocks of all varieties in all pot sizes and therefore reserve the right to supply 9cm pots instead of 2 litre and adjust the price accordingly.
