Foxglove
Digitalis purpurea Foxy
Spectacular, upright spikes of trumpet-shaped blooms are produced in varying hues of pink and white from May to June. These are outlined with cream and have bold blotches of deep purple-brown in the throat of each flower. It is a hardy, annual foxglove which forms an attractive rosette of ovate, slightly hairy, large mid-green leaves. The flower spikes are sent up from the middle of the foliage and reach approximately 75cm above the ground. Great for acting as a dramatic punch in the late spring and early summer garden, it is attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds and self-seeds readily. We’d recommend cutting back the main flower spikes after flowering to encourage a second flush of blooms.

Incorporate lots of well-rotted organic matter into the backfill when planting. Apply generous well rotted organic mulch in early spring and keep well-watered during periods of dry weather. Please Note: Many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means that there is little or no top growth apparent between November and March. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in spring. In the dormant period, we may not have stocks of all varieties in all pot sizes and therefore reserve the right to supply 9cm pots instead of 2 litre and adjust the price accordingly.
