Delphinium
Delphinium Black Knight
One of the classic flowers of the traditional summer garden, this is a stunning, ornamental variety producing tall, upright spires laden with intensely-coloured, majestic, deep violet-blue blooms from June to July. It forms a mound of gorgeous, deeply-cut, grey-green leaves and looks beautiful when planted in bold groups at the back of a mixed or herbaceous border. Although the flowering season is relatively short, cutting back summer flowering stems as soon as the blooms are over will help to encourage a second flush of colour over the autumn. Perfect for adding height and a bold splash of colour to the cottage garden, it also combines well with creamy-white flowering perennials and makes a great choice for high altitude gardens. Young foliage benefits from being protected from slug damage in the spring and slender stems should be staked before the flowers appear

Incorporate lots of well-rotted organic matter into the backfill when planting. Apply generous well rotted organic mulch in early spring and keep well-watered during periods of dry weather. Please Note: Many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means that there is little or no top growth apparent between November and March. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in spring. In the dormant period, we may not have stocks of all varieties in all pot sizes and therefore reserve the right to supply 9cm pots instead of 2 litre and adjust the price accordingly.
