Japanese Cedar
Cryptomeria Elegans Viridis
This is a hardy, evergreen conifer with bluish-green young foliage, maturing to deep green with age and taking on a lovely copper-plum colour in the winter. A naturally slow-growing and compact variety, it’s valued for its dense, solid foliage and rich colouring, eventually forming an attractive, small tree. It makes a good architectural shape to team with craggier conifer shapes in a classic heather and conifer garden, but also looks good as a feature in a border. Although it makes a great privacy screen or windbreak it will go brown quickly in dry conditions and browned growth is not replaced.
