Purple Hazel
Corylus maxima Purpurea
This is a beautiful, ornamental variety with opulent, deep purple foliage and yellow-tinged, reddish-purple, male catkins which hang below the bare branches in late winter. Excellent contrasting foliage for your garden. It also produces good crops of edible nuts that ripen between August and September. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, this form of Filbert is an excellent choice for using as a hedging plant or specimen tree where space is limited.
