Purple Corkscrew Hazel
Corylus avellana Red Majestic
This is the latest contorted hazel which combines the charm of the twisted hazel with the qualities of the foliage of the purple hazel. It is a hardy, medium to large, upright shrub with intricately contorted branches which are very handsome in winter. It also produces purple catkins in late winter which accompany the rich purple foliage beautifully. It is a deciduous variety which grows best in a moist, well drained soil, reaching a height of about 2 metres when fully grown.
