Cabbage Tree
Cordyline australis Purple Tower
Arching, sword-shaped, dark burgundy-red foliage that’s retained all year round, adding height and impact to any garden setting. This is an excellent variety that’s perfect for making a focal-point in mixed borders and looks stunning on the patio. Often likened to a fountain as it starts out as a fan like clump and it grows continually upwards from the centre with older leaves dying back from the bottom and hanging down the emerging trunk, forming a palm tree. Once mature it bears huge panicles of small, sweetly-scented, creamy-white flowers from July to August, followed by an abundance of bluish-white berries. As it requires good light to maintain its dark colour, we recommend growing it in a sunny position.
