False Cypress
Chamaecyparis lawsoniana Pembury Blue
The bluest of all Lawson cypress, this is a very attractive, medium-sized conifer with sprays of lacy-textured foliage glistening in a lovely shade of silvery blue. It is ideal for growing as a specimen plant in a heather bed, looking most spectacular in late spring when the flush of new growth occurs. It’s an upright grower which prefers a free-draining soil and forms a beautiful dense hedge of silvery-blue foliage. Although it’s not as fast growing as Leylandii or Thuja, it makes an excellent hedging choice for those who want something different and are willing to wait a bit longer.
