Cedar Pinaceae
Cedrus Deodara
This is a graceful, coniferous evergreen tree with a lovely, weeping growth habit. Pointed, pale grey-green, needle-like leaves are produced on slender, horizontally spreading branches in dense whorls of 20-30 per cluster. These are accompanied by banana-shaped, male catkins and small, male cones on the lower half of the tree. Occasionally, purplish female cones which mature to reddish-brown are also displayed on the upper half of the tree. It makes a large, handsome specimen which forms a fantastic wind breaker. Unfortunately, its size means it’s only suitable for larger gardens.
