Sweet Chestnut
Castanea Sativa
Majestic ornamental tree in summer when laden with yellow-green male and female catkins, followed by rich brown edible nuts in autumn. It has a dome-headed dense compact form of broad toothed shiny oblong leaves. The trunk in older trees is textured deeply and has an interesting spiral groove. The tall upright nature makes the sweet chestnut ideal for parks and other public areas.
