European Hornbeam
Carpinus Betulus
Large mid-green leaves that go tan and copper coloured in autumn giving fiery autumnal hues that often hold on the plant well into winter. Very similar to green beech but deeper veined, serrated edged leaves. The beauty of hornbeam is that it grows well in poorer, wetter soils where beech would struggle to survive yet retains the beautiful characteristics of some of Britain’s most beautiful trees and hedges.
