Carum Carvi
Caraway
This is a slender and straggly plant that has delicate umbellifer clusters of white flowers and small, feathery leaves. It is most effective when grown in a large clump and grows to a height of up to 60cm tall, with a potential spread of around 30cm. The leaves resemble those of carrots but tend to droop more and the stems of the delicate flowers produce seed cases, each containing two seeds. Thrives in all but the most humid warm regions of Britain but requires a well-drained soil and plenty of sun for the best flavour to be produced.Culinary UsesCaraway seeds are used to flavor bread, cheese, sausage and salads. Medicinally this spice is used for it’s gas-relieving properties.
