Chinese Trumpet Creeper
Campsis Grandiflora
Enormous clusters of tropic-looking, deep orange, trumpet-shaped blooms which are produced at branch ends all summer long. These have an attractive splash of orange-yellow in the centre and are produced above long, coarsely toothed, glossy dark-green leaves with pointed tips and distinctive veining. It is a vigorous, self-clinging deciduous climber that’s native to China and should be grown in a warm, sheltered position away from strong, cold winds. It can be trained across a wall or fence to form an attractive screen and should be cut back to a desired size in early spring and summer.

Some protection from cold winter weather is required. Protect from frosts and apply a generous mulch or bark or well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in winter to promote winter survival. Prune as required after flowering to keep the foliage growth within intended boundaries.
