Scots Heather
Calluna vulgaris Spring Torch
This is a fantastic, evergreen heather with attractive, overlapping, mid-green leaves which are tinged orange-red in spring and display eye-catching growing tips in shades of pink, red and cream. Combining well with hollies, creeping phlox and winter thyme, it bears masses of showy, purple-pink to rose-pink flowers in terminal, one sided, spike-like racemes from August to September. It is perfect for naturalising any part of the garden and can be used as groundcover or planted en masse on hillsides. Ideal growing conditions are in an open, sunny position where it will form a thick mat of richly-coloured foliage.
