Scots Heather
Calluna vulgaris Silver Queen
Widely considered to be the best silver variety available, this is a stunning, hardy evergreen heather with eye-catching, softly-textured, rich silvery-grey foliage that doesn’t turn dull or purple in the winter. It bears masses of tiny, urn-shaped, light mauve to deep lilac flowers which clothe the stems from July to September. Grown for its spectacular foliage, it has a broad, spreading habit and makes a great choice for using in mass plantings, along walkways and in troughs or patio containers that have good drainage. Cut back after flowering to maintain a compact, neat growth habit and don’t be tempted to over-fertilise because it prefers a rocky, unimproved soil.
