Common Box
Buxus Sempervirens Lollipop
This large, dense evergreen shrub is quite slow growing yet very long lived. Its purpose is primarily for hedging and topiary, however, it has all the characteristics of a superb border shrub too. The dark green foliage is thick and present year round. Can be grown in most fertile soils but prefers slightly alkaline, well drained areas for most impressive growth. This plant can be kept in shape by clipping once annually, although it will not lose its compact appearance if left to its own devices. After many years of grow this variety may reach 1.5 metres in height, with a potential spread of almost 2.5 metres.

Garden Care:
When growing box plants you must ensure the ground they are in is never allowed to dry out. This may mean watering the plants on a regular basis during hot, dry summers. If being grown as a hedge or topiary plant it should be pruned in July or August and then again in spring. On both occasions you should also add a top-dressing of a well-balanced slow-release fertilizer around the base of the plants. When doing this be sure that it doesn’t come into contact with the leaves or stems.
