Butterfly Bush (Buddleia)
Buddleja Davidii 'Black Knight'
The "Black Knight" variety is very rare in Britain despite its excellent characteristics. It is the darkest of the purple forms of Buddleia (also known as Butterfly bush due to their attractive to it) and shows long trusses of deep violet. This is a large deciduous shrub that produces large arching canes and often grows to its maximum height of 3 metres. The long, narrow foliage is grey-green to green above and white and fuzzy on the underside. Bears long, upright showy flowers which are lilac and orange in the throat. These are followed by small-capsules of fruit which help to give the plant year round colour and interest. Should be grown in a fertile soil where full sun is available. Also benefits from being pruned back in spring to encourage new growth.
