Masterwort
Astrantia Ruby Wedding
Branched clusters of stunning, intensely-coloured, ruby-red flowers with pincushion-like centres and a flush of pure white at the base of each petal are produced in abundance from June to August. This is a cottage garden favourite with deeply-lobed, serrated, fresh green leaves that provide a lovely foil to the striking blooms. It has attractive maroon stems and makes a great choice for planting at a woodland edge in dappled shape, growing under the canopies of trees or planting en masse in the moist ground around natural ponds or streams. As Astrantias deter slugs they can also be combined with large-leaved plants such as hostas to act as an organic method of controlling slug damage. A great choice for contemporary-style plantings

Old flowering stems and foliage should be cut out when the plant starts to die back in November. Please Note: Although all our perennials are advertised as being sold in 1 litre containers, they are sometimes stocked in 9cm pots instead (particularly during the winter). If you order perennials from us, we reserve the right to supply them in 9cm pots instead of 1 litre containers, at a price of £2.80 instead of £3.80. Between November and March many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means they are sold as a root, corm or bulb with no top growth. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in the spring.
