Masterwort
Astrantia major
Charming, branched heads of stunning, silvery-white flowers with pincushion-like centres that are attractively flushed with bright violet at the base. These are produced from July to August and are accompanied by stiff ruffs of greenish-white, ray-like bracts which resemble the petals of a daisy. It has deeply cut, serrated, fresh mid-green leaves and makes a great choice for incorporating into a cottage garden setting or woodland edge in dappled shade. Combining well with climbing roses and escallonia varieties, it can also be used as groundcover when planted in groups and makes excellent cut flowers for fresh or dried arrangements.

Old flowering stems and foliage should be cut out when the plant starts to die back in November. Please Note: Many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means that there is little or no top growth apparent between November and March. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in spring. In the dormant period, we may not have stocks of all varieties in all pot sizes and therefore reserve the right to supply 9cm pots instead of 2 litre and adjust the price accordingly.
