False Goatsbeard
Astilbe Arendsii Fanal
Elegant, self-supporting spikes of feathery, deep red flower heads are produced in early summer, fading to bronze as the autumn approaches but still maintaining their excellent form. This is a tall, handsome variety with lacy, finely-dissected deep green leaves that form a dense canopy and provide a stunning backdrop to the flowers. It grows best in partial shade making it perfect for planting in a container to glorify a shaded part of the patio. Combining well with hostas and ferns, it also makes a great addition to the perennial or shade garden and can be used in elaborate cut flower displays. Delay pruning until early spring as the old foliage protects the plant from winter damage.

Ensure that the plant is watered regularly until it is well established. Large clumps can be lifted and divided every three or four years. At this time discard old, woody rhizomes. Please Note: Although all our perennials are advertised as being sold in 1 litre containers, they are sometimes stocked in 9cm pots instead (particularly during the winter). If you order perennials from us, we reserve the right to supply them in 9cm pots instead of 1 litre containers, at a price of £2.80 instead of £3.80. Between November and March many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means they are sold as a root, corm or bulb with no top growth. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in the spring.
