Rock Cress Bloom
Arabis Alpina White

An attractive, easy-to-grow evergreen perennial which forms a low-growing mat of jagged, hairy grey-green leaves. It produces masses of stunning, sweetly-scented, pure white flowers in loose clusters between March and May, followed by long, narrow fruits. Ideal for using as an edging plant or growing around the base of shrubs and hedges, it requires good drainage and will thrive in sun or shade. It can be used to clothe a bank and looks excellent when set off against a backdrop of large rocks, making it a great choice for the rock garden. We recommend cutting back after flowering to keep the plant in check.

Position: Full sun

Soil: A fertile, humus rich and well drained soil is preferred

Rate of Growth: Average

Flowering Period: March to May

Flower Colour: White

Other Features: The flowers may become slightly pink tinged under some growing conditions

Hardiness: Frost hardy

Garden Care: Provide a high-nitrogen liquid feed each week in June, then a high-potash fertiliser each week from July to September. Once the first frosts have blackened the foliage carefully lift and clean the tubers and allow them to dry naturally indoors. Place the dry tubers in a shallow tray, just covered with slightly moist potting compost, sand or vermiculite. Store in a frost-free place and check them frequently over the winter. Please Note: Although all our perennials are advertised as being sold in 1 litre containers, they are sometimes stocked in 9cm pots instead (particularly during the winter). If you order perennials from us, we reserve the right to supply them in 9cm pots instead of 1 litre containers, at a price of £2.50 instead of £3.80. Between November and March many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means they are sold as a root, corm or bulb with no top growth. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in the spring.
