Columbine
Aquilegia McKana Hybrids

This is a graceful, clump-forming upright perennial producing large, distinctive, bonnet-like flowers in shades of blue, lilac, yellow, pink and rose red. These have yellow centres with a delicate, nodding appearance and are often made up of two of the above colours. It forms a mound of graceful, ferny blue-green leaves which are finely divided and provide a perfect backdrop to the flowers. Prized for its showy summer blooms, it looks lovely when incorporated into a woodland border or cottage garden setting. Although it’s relatively short-lived it’s still widely considered as a must-have for any garden.

Position: Prefers partial shade

Soil: A moist, yet well-drained, fertile soil

Rate of Growth: Average

Flowering Period: May to July

Flower Colour: Blues, yellows and reds all on the same plant

Other Features: The blooms make excellent cut flowers but all parts of the plant are harmful if eaten

Hardiness: Fully hardy: stands a temperature down to -15°C

Garden Care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted organic matter into the backfill when planting. Apply generous well rotted organic mulch in early spring and keep well-watered during periods of dry weather.

Please Note: Many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means that there is little or no top growth apparent between November and March. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in spring. In the dormant period, we may not have stocks of all varieties in all pot sizes and therefore reserve the right to supply 9cm pots instead of 2 litre and adjust the price accordingly.

Eventual Height:  75cm
Eventual Spread:  60cm

Approx Pot Size Approx Height Price

9 cm pot Varies throughout the season £2.80
