Pussy-toes
Antennaria Dioica

Commonly known as Cat’s Foot, this is a small, semi-evergreen, herbaceous perennial which forms a rosette of basal, bright green, grass-like leaves with smaller felty, silvery-green leaves arranged spirally up the flowering stems. It produces fluffy, rich pink flower heads with pinkish-white bracts which are borne on erect flower stalks about 25cm long, with the flower heads on different stalks being held at roughly the same height. It’s well-suited to growing on dry, stony ground, making it perfect for the rock or alpine garden or growing in between stepping or pacing stones. As it forms a low, creeping mat of dense foliage which hugs the ground, it’s also excellent for using as a groundcover plant in a sunny border

  • Position: Full sun

  • Soil: Prefers a sandy, well-drained, infertile soil

  • Rate of Growth: Average growing

  • Flowering Period: June to July

  • Flower Colour: Rich pink with pinkish-white bracts

  • Other Features: Combining well with any pink or purple creeping Thyme, it’s great for the front of flower beds, rock walls or alpine trough gardens

  • Hardiness: Fully hardy

  • Garden Care: Although it is tolerant of poor soils, excellent drainage is essential. Dead head immediately after the flowers have faded to prevent getting more seedlings next season. It can easily be lifted and divided every three to five years in spring by simply ripping the clump apart into smaller pieces. Please Note: Although all our perennials are advertised as being sold in 1 litre containers, they are sometimes stocked in 9cm pots instead (particularly during the winter). If you order perennials from us, we reserve the right to supply them in 9cm pots instead of 1 litre containers, at a price of £2.00 instead of £2.80. Between November and March many perennials go ‘dormant’ which, in some cases, means they are sold as a root, corm or bulb with no top growth. If you order perennials whilst they are dormant, they may not be visible above the soil level when purchased but will burst into life in the spring.

  • Eventual Height:  15cm
    Eventual Spread:  30cm
