Chives
Allium Schoenoprasum
Chives is a popular favourite amongst herb growers. They should be grown in clumps with their round, hollow, grass-like leaves reaching 20cm or so. The firm stems are bright green, straight and remarkably smooth. The flowers, which bloom for two months in midsummer, form round deep purple or pink globes and make an excellent garnish. Suitable for most reasonable garden soils.
