Sweet Flag
Acorus Calamus Variegatus
This is an excellent, variegated water grass which has strap-shaped, aromatic bright green leaves. These give off a tangerine perfume when crushed and accompany the maroon, horn-like summer flowers superbly. It is a handsome, iris-like aquatic perennial that is ideal for the shallow, sunny margins of a rockery pond. It should be grown in full sun in water no deeper than 22cm.
